Laila Anbu is a female olive ridley sea turtle found by the Dive Nakai Maayafushi team in the middle of North Ari Atoll. She was entangled in a large ghost net, and the rescue team entered the water with knives to free her. Laila Anbu was unable to dive, and one of her front flippers was severely injured, so transport to Atoll Marine Centre was arranged via a local Manta Air flight. Upon arrival at the centre, AMC’s veterinarian assessed her injuries, collected admission data, and settled Laila Anbu into her tank to rest. After several days of stabilisation, it became clear that her injured flipper could not be saved and had to be amputated. Laila Anbu is now recovering well, and we remain hopeful that she will continue to make progress and, once her wounds are fully healed and she can dive comfortably, return to the ocean.
