'Ummeedhu' is a juvenile Olive Ridley turtle (nicknamed Umee), meaning Hope in Dhivehi. She/he was rescued by guests from Ari Grand Hotel who sadly found her/him entangled in ghost net gear nearby to the island. Umee had very serious entanglement injuries on all four limbs. Unfortunately Umee's right front flipper could not be saved, and so the limb was amputated to give Umee the best chance at rehabilitation and recovery. She/he is learning how to swim and dive again without one of their front flippers and we hope they will make a speedy recovery and be able to be released soon!
