Not only do we rescue turtles, but we now also rescue birds!
Rindhali is an adorable shorebird brought to the centre by a local resident. During a wing check, the AMC vet found that most of his primary and secondary feathers—which he needs in order to fly— had been clipped. It is possible that whoever did this intended to keep him as a pet. We must wait for his natural molting cycle, during which the clipped feathers will fall out and new ones will grow in. We now have a special permit from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to care for him until he regains his ability to fly, as this process could take several months.
Sadly, sea turtle hatchlings aren’t the only victims of the illegal pet trade, but Rindhali is a lucky bird who will soon be able to fly free.
