Buoyancy Syndrome Research
In 2024, we hosted an amazing intern from Australia, Elexis. She spent 3 months with us monitoring and researching the impacts of buoyancy syndrome and possibility of healing of one of our patients, Olga.
Elexis was able to design and create a new feeding enrichment, to enable Olga to practise her diving ability and encourage her to each deeper levels over time.

Over the course of her three months, Elexis collected consistent data which allowed her to understand the changes in behaviour and feeding from Olga based on this device.
We continue to use this enrichment for Olga daily even though Elexis has sadly left our facility, and we really appreciate the work that she did for our centre.
Behavioural Research
In 2025, Anya visited our centre for a month to conduct behavioural research on Zikii. For her thesis at the Marine and Coastal Resource Management Master's Degree at the University of Chester, she collected data on Zikii's behaviours throughout her rehabilitation journey, and especially on her process to relearn how to dive after her entanglement. We are very excited to read about Anya's results and conclusions once her thesis is finished!
