Here at AMC we offer internships to local Maldivian Nationals who are interested in kickstarting their careers in Marine Science.
Whilst gaining experience in marine conservation and sea turtle rehabilitation is a core component in these internships, they also offer development of a range of skills such as confidence building, public speaking practice, data entry skills, grant writing, outreach experience, as well as other general skills to boost employability, including help with CV-writing.
Currently we have two amazing local interns at our centre. One of our interns, Anum, has been with Atoll Marine Conservation Centre for two years, starting when she was just 14-years old!
We therefore wanted to re-introduce you to our longest-standing intern, and share with you a testimonial from her about her time working here.
Local Intern Testimonial
“Hello! My name is Rasheedhath Anum, and I’m currently working as a marine biology intern at Atoll Marine Centre. I have been with the centre for the past two years and I have learned so much. Before my time here, I had little confidence in presenting, myself and my work. However, after delivering several presentations to guests, I’ve developed the ability to confidently present to anyone. I can even present to large crowds, a skill I consider invaluable.
At Atoll Marine Centre, I’ve had the opportunity to experience many new things, such as snorkeling and diving, which as allowed me to witness incredible marine life. I’ve also had the opportunity to travel to diverse locations, making new connections with amazing people. Working with international volunteers from various backgrounds and ages has also allowed me to learn so many new things and gain new perspectives. This experience has truly been the highlight of my teenage years.
Working at AMC has equipped me with valuable skills applicable both now and in the future. I highly recommend this place to anyone interested in marine biology or even if you’re not. During my time here, I’ve made lifelong friends and learned the importance of teamwork. I’ve gained a deeper understanding of our fragile environment, the impacts we create, and the significance of conservation.
Overall, I am incredibly grateful for the experiences I’ve had and the knowledge I’ve gained.”
